Firstly, I'd like to thank every one of you. Seymour FM simply wouldn't exist without the time, passion and dedication of our volunteers. Every hour you volunteer, every program you prepare, and every show you present helps keep local radio alive in our community. Whether you're a long-time presenter or have only recently joined us, your contribution is genuinely appreciated.
As we head into the second half of the year, there are a few important reminders for everyone. None of them are difficult, but they're important in helping us keep Seymour FM operating professionally, safely and in line with our obligations as a licensed community broadcaster.
Membership Reminder
One of the conditions of presenting on Seymour FM is that all presenters must be current financial members of the Association.
If you're unsure whether your membership is current, you can check it anytime using our Membership Portal:

From the portal you can:
- Check your membership status.
- Renew your membership if required.
- Update your contact details.
- View your membership information.

Being a current financial member isn't just a station requirement. It also supports the ongoing operation, governance and future of Seymour FM.
Looking After Our Station
Seymour FM is run entirely by volunteers.
That means the station only works well when everyone takes responsibility for looking after it.
Please leave the studio exactly as you would like to find it.
Before you leave, please take a minute to:
- Take your rubbish with you and place it in the outside bins.
- Wash or dispose of any cups, plates or utensils you've used.
- Don't leave food or drinks behind.
- Return microphones, headphones and equipment to where they belong.
- Leave the desk clean and tidy.
- Don't rearrange studio equipment unless authorised.
- If you borrow equipment from another studio or room, please return it when you've finished.
- Turn off anything that isn't required.
- Lock up correctly if you're the last person leaving.
A clean and organised studio isn't someone else's responsibility.
It's everyone's.
Reporting Faults
If you notice something isn't working properly, please don't assume somebody else has already reported it.
Whether it's a technical fault, building issue or even something small, logging it means we can track it and fix it as quickly as possible.

Examples include:
- Broadcast equipment faults.
- Computer or software issues.
- Audio problems.
- Building maintenance.
- Studio cleanliness.
- Safety hazards.
- Missing or damaged equipment.
- Anything else that needs attention.
Even if you're not sure whether an issue has already been reported, please log it anyway. Duplicate reports are far better than faults going unnoticed.
The earlier we know about an issue, the easier it is to resolve before it affects another presenter.
Programming Reminders
A few simple reminders help keep everything running smoothly:
- Arrive early enough to prepare for your program.
- Finish your program on time so the next presenter can begin theirs.
- If you're unable to present your program, let us know as early as possible.
- If you're unsure about content, language or anything you're planning to broadcast, please ask before going to air.
Victorian State Election 2026
The Victorian State Election will be held later this year.
As we move closer to the election period, it's important that all presenters understand their responsibilities while broadcasting.
Community radio has an important role in informing our community while remaining independent, fair and balanced. As a licensed community broadcaster, Seymour FM must comply with the Community Radio Broadcasting Codes of Practice and relevant broadcasting legislation.
What This Means On Air
If your program includes discussion about politics, government, candidates or election issues:
- Be fair, accurate and respectful.
- Clearly separate facts from personal opinion.
- Avoid using your program to campaign for or against a political party or candidate.
- Don't present your personal political views as those of Seymour FM.
- Check your facts before broadcasting them.
- Treat callers and guests fairly.
- Avoid defamatory, misleading or inflammatory comments.
Please also remember that anything published using Seymour FM's official social media channels should meet the same standards expected on air, particularly during the election period.

Candidate Interviews and Political Content
If you're considering interviewing a political candidate, discussing election policies or broadcasting election-related material, please speak with the Committee before your program.
This helps ensure:
- We meet our legal obligations.
- We remain fair to all participants.
- We maintain Seymour FM's reputation as an independent community broadcaster.
There will be further guidance issued as we get closer to the election.
